Welcome to the opening post in our "Favourite Spaces" blog series, where we look at interior spaces and share ideas for getting the best from the room you have. Everyone has a favourite corner at home, so here are a few of mine and the choices I made to make the most of the space and light.
This post focuses on my own living room. The scheme follows a tight colour palette of pale forest greens and teals, set against copper accessories throughout.
The back wall is furnished with a homemade copper standing lamp, which pairs perfectly with a handmade seaglass stool, a storage chest painted to match the wall, and a folding table that saves space yet opens up to seat 8 guests. Folding chairs are tucked away and hung in a cupboard to keep clutter down. All of these pieces were rescued from a rubbish skip at some point and upcycled with a lick of paint or a bit of TLC. Geometric copper shapes, hanging plants and the clock reinforce the palette and cast interesting shadows across the wall in the soft light from the floor lamp. Plenty of plants bring a touch of nature into the living room.
On the opposite wall we have made a cosy sitting area by using the room's natural L shape to form a nook. Here, boards of OSB create a media wall that hides unsightly cables and also marks the edge of the seating zone, separating it visually from the dining area. To finish, the side wall is painted a pale green to match the rear wall, with hanging plants and a length of wood closing off the second couch to create a sense of intimacy.
