"Favourite Spaces" Series: Designing a Productive Study

20 February 2026

Welcome to the second instalment of our "Favourite Spaces" blog series, where we look at interior spaces and share ideas for getting the best from the room you have. Everyone has a favourite corner at home, so here are a few of mine and the changes I've made to make the most of the space and light.

This post focuses on my study, a space where I aim for a little calm and a spark of creativity. The scheme follows an autumn palette, with plenty of yellows, oranges and reds. We also had a lot of leftover black furniture that wasn't to our taste, including a desk, shelf units and drawers, so we gathered it all in this room. Together it forms one cohesive run along a single wall that contrasts with the bright green, rather than being scattered around the house where it might have looked out of place.

The walls are painted in a soft lime green up to the halfway point. The colour stops at the height of the shelving with a bold angled line, which visually splits the room in two. This helps to make the small room feel taller, and the paint marks out the "work" and "play" zones.

Choosing decorations and trinkets in the right colours helps to reinforce the palette, even for practical pieces such as lamps and storage. In this photo I've hung a large collection of marker pens on the wall as a feature that also serves a useful purpose in the arts and crafts corner.

Plenty of plants and wooden knick knacks are dotted around the room, and floating shelves surround the PC to create a productive nook with everything I need to work!

A soft yellow glow complements the autumn colours, and the room is filled with plenty of plants to create a sense of calm.
