Modern Open Plan Extension with full height glazing, feature fireplace wall and clear storey windows in Inverkip

An animation from our latest project: This extension maximises panormaic views over the clyde and provides a cosy and welcoming place for the client to relax in the evening. Full height glazing, and stone tiled floors creates the illusion of sitting "outside" in the garden, which is accessed via an enclosed portal doorway and private courtyard with privacy wall. The open plan space is divided by a flooring change which defines the public dining space and the more private sitting area with feature electric fireplace taking centre stage.

Visit to Falkirk Wheel

We recently visited the Falkirk Wheel, and took some fancy snaps of this amazing feat of engineering. The small visitors centre accompanies the Falkirk wheel and is clad in curved timber, whilst the wheel itself was much larger than expected when seen in person: the impressive concrete columns hold the canal, which offers panoramic views to the Kelpies, Falkirk and beyond.

Throwing Shapes- an Islamic Architecture Puzzle Game

At the weekend to relax we like to throw some shapes!
I've been playing this simple puzzle game Engare as a way to unwind on the train home. It's part game, part drawing tool and the puzzles are inspired by the complex geometry and art behind Islamic architecture. I don't want to give any spoilers so all I'll say is that things get really interesting at the end of chapter 2…

A Virtual Tour of the Salerno Suite from Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce's Burns Supper

I was delighted to attend Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce's Burns Supper at Ingliston Country Club this afternoon. We were entertained with some fantastic singing along with recitals of some of Rabbie Burn's poetry and (of course) plenty of haggis! We also had the chance for a peak inside the opulent Salerno suite at Ingliston Country Club, it's amazing to see the amount of development at this luxurious leisure facility in Bishopton, Renfrewshire. It was here that Richard Robb Architects were officially welcomed into Renfrewshire Chamber as new members!

Zinc clad wraparound rear extension in Inverkip

An animation from our latest project featuring a zinc clad rear extension with an unusal wrap-around shape. This unique proposal for an extension to a family home features modern geometry in line with our client's brief. South facing skylights look over an extended kitchen and seating area with sheltered decking to the rear of the house to make the most of the light and allow the client to enjoy the outdoors even during the winter.

Cycle to Wemyss Bay Survey

There isn't really a better way to get about than cycling when the weather is right. I decided to sling a leg over the bike and head down for a survey of a large property with panoramic views both up and down the River Clyde. This split level home is crying out for an open plan layout with glazed living room extension and a front balcony to take advantage of this fantastic outlook. Our clients have some fantastic ideas of their own and we look forward to working with them on proposals to bring an impressive entrance and open living space to this new home

James Watt Dock Marina Building in Greenock granted planning permission

Inverclyde planning have granted planning permission for the landmark James Watt Dock Marina building in Greenock. The new building will bring marina administration space, a cafe, retail and office units to the James Watt Dock Marina, replacing temporary accommodation in the Sugar Sheds.

Architectural Sketch Series- "Parametric Columns"

This sketch is a simple diagram showing the evolution of two parametric columns. The first takes a simple shape and applies a rotated extrusion to form an organic, twisting shape. The second takes 3D spatial points and joins them using a reductive process to remove excess material, leaving a faceted column. This parametric approach uses data to drive design and create visually interesting forms.

Richard Robb Architects Christmas night out

Richard Robb Architects celebrate the office night out. We're kicking the day off with attendance at the council's vision for future development in Inverclyde, followed by Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce's Christmas Lunch, and dinner at Cafe Balfe. We missed out on the prize for best dressed despite our Christmas jumpers, but it was a trip down memory lane to see the changing rooms again, which we worked on for Gourock Golf Club back in 2012. Thanks again to the Golf Club and the Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce for hosting this event.
